The Beckham Rule

In MLS, the highest salary a player can be paid due to salary cap restrictions is $350,000. So, when the MLS wanted to branch out and look elsewhere outside their comfort zone for talent, nothing in the United States could entice big name players. However, when David Beckham showed interest in the Los Angeles Galaxy, the MLS tried to adjust to hasten his move over. Thus, the Designated Player Rule was created, or commonly known as the Beckham Rule.

Robbie Keane MLS Bound

Robbie Keane, the pinnacle of Irish football.  Keane has just recently completed a move to MLS side the Los Angeles Galaxy.  Aged 31, he will be playing alongside former Premier League player David Beckham, and will face another famous forward of the Premier League, Thierry Henry.  Keane has performed excellent football in the English Premier League, and now he has decided that it was time to move on.  Having spent loan spells most of last season, he was becoming a “second-string” Tottenham player.  In Los Angeles, he will be regarded as the extraordinary forward he is.

De Rosario Scores Winner On Former Team

Dwayne De Rosario is one of the most memorable players in the MLS.  The 33-year-old Canadian international has been in the league since the 2001 season.  Since then, he’s played for five different MLS clubs, and three different clubs in the 2011 MLS season.  De Rosario is no stranger to MLS fans, being the only player to ever earn more than one MLS Cup MVP award.  He started this season at the club he captained, Toronto FC.  After two appearances in the 2011 season, he was traded to the New York Red Bulls, to play with the likes of Thierry Henry and Rafael Marquez.  He played Read On..

FC Dallas, the new team to beat?

Brek Shea, the 21-year-old FC Dallas player, scored his eighth goal for Dallas this season on 2 July, 2011.  Shea has scored for Dallas in their last four games, and is their top goalscorer.  He’s also in a four way tie for the most goals in the MLS.  The 21 year old soccer stud is tied for most goals this season with the likes of Landon Donovan and Thierry Henry.  Shea is a one club man, having played three seasons prior to this one for FC Dallas.  In his senior career, he’s played all over the pitch, playing everything from a central defender to a lone striker.  Finally, this season, Read On..

David Beckham and the Galaxy lead midway through MLS season

The Los Angeles Galaxy have played 17 of their 34 games this season, and halfway through, they top the table with 31 points.  FC Dallas are the closest to them with 25 points, and Dallas also have two games in hand.  Despite Beckham’s mere one goal in the 14 games he’s played, he’s still seems to be one of the top players currently in the league, having the second most assists in the league with seven.  Beckham’s goal was scored on a free kick well outside the box.  He curved it into the top corner, and gave the keeper no chance.  However, Beckham isn’t the only player in the MLS Read On..
